Gone are the days when the Music Industry was a league of men like Don jazzy, 2face, d banj, Casper, Sarkodie, AKA amongst others. Things have changed over the years with so many fresh new artists making huge waves in the industry. Some came into the limelight 2018 while some never got much recognition till 2019.

We present the top 5 African Music Youngsters

5. Rema

The 19 years old Edo state teen whose real name is Divine Ikubor is no doubt a prominent young figure in the Music Industry in 2019 with the release of Iron Man which appeared on Barrack Obama’s Summer playlist and most importantly with the release of Dumebi which is his most successful song since he joined the industry.

Rema started his music career with freestyles back in secondary school and he’s had some freestyles before he got signed.

He is currently signed to Jonzing World which is a subsidiary of Mavin record. He released his EP titled Commando in 2019 and it peaked No 1 Apple Music Nigeria.

4. Joeboy

Who doesn’t know joeboy these days. When a love song comes on, its likely joeboy on it. The talented Nigerian artist whose real name is Joseph Akinfenwa Donus rose to fame after he dropped his hit single “Baby” which is still his most successful single till date. The single made it to the top 10 Nigerian music chart on Apple. Since then the 22 years old artist has dropped other hit singles like beginning.

He is signed to Banku music and released his first project titled Love and Light which was released on 8th November 2019 and contains 5 songs. He was nominated for the next rated award on the Headies, the headers award for viewers choice, etc.

Joeboy had a great year in 2019, we expect more to come and for that, he is number 4 on this list.

3. Kwesi Arthur

Gone are the days when Sarkodie Was The only known rapper from Ghana, so many rappers quickly rose to fame over the last 3 years and Kwesi Arthur isn’t exempted.

Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur Junior was born on 18th December in Tema, Ghana. although there are reports that his parents were originally from Kogi state in Nigeria but kwesi Arthur seems not to agree with that claim as he always say he is from Ghana, Tema. Kwesi Arthur is a very skilled rapper with lots of flows and rhymes which you would agree to if you listen to his songs well.

Kwesi Arthur began to pursue a career in music after listening to Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later. Kwesi Arthur in a live interview with Capital Xtra announced his much love for Drake as he says Drake is his inspiration.

Kwesi Arthur was nominated for the best international act at the 2018 BET awards. He is currently signed to GroundUp record label which he usually says in the beginning of Most of his songs. He released his debut album “Live from Nkrumah Vol 1” in 2015. the album houses his most successful single titled “Grind day” which he later made the remix with sarkodie and medikal.

He released his latest album titled Live from Nkrumah vol 2: Home Run on 26th April 2019 and has been making good music too with good collaboration with Nigerian artists. He is a rapper to watch out for and for that he is number 3 on this list.

2. Fireboy DML

The Nigerian Music Industry won’t remain the same again with the coming of Fireboy dml. The YBNL artist shook the Music Industry with the release of his hit single “Jealous” which trended for many weeks. Fireboy dml is a rare talent in the Music Industry. He was already making musics earlier before he got signed but wasn’t recognized. He gained the fame when Olamide signed him to his record label.

The 23 years old singer hails from Abeokuta with lots of talent. He has won the city people music award for the most promising act. He was also nominated for the Headies next rated award 2019, Headies award for the best pop single and Headies award for viewers choice.

He released his first project on 28th November, 2019 titled Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps. When asked by a fan why he chose that title, he replied “because that’s what you’ll feel when you listen to my songs, you either feel one of them or feel all of them at the same time”. The album houses 13 songs all of which are inspirational and motivational.

Fireboy no doubt is the most important young figure in the Music Industry in 2019, but since we’re talking about Africa, Fireboy dml comes second on the list.

1. Nasty C

South African rapper, songwriter and record producer, Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo popularly known as Nasty C, is a South African prominent young figure who rose to fame after his mixtape Price City (2015) which houses the successful single, “Juice Back” with a remix to the song from Fellow South African Rapper Casper and Nigeria’s most famous artist “Davido”. That was the first time he had a collaboration with Davido but it wasn’t the last as they both had a hit joint to the song “Coolest kid in Africa”. Nasty C has several mixtapes like One Kid, a Thousand Coffins on 14 May 2012 and Price City, 2015. He released his debut EP L.A.M.E (Levitating Above My Enemies) on 4 April 2014.

He released his first album “Bad Hair” on 23rd September 2016. Bad Hair reached number-one on the iTunes local charts and was the most streamed album in South Africa within its 24 hours. Isn’t that a huge success?

He released the extended version for Bad Hair named Bad Hair Extensions which houses the song ‘Allow” and he feautures French Montana on it. After a great work and success that year, he was nominated for best international act at the BET Award 2017.

2018 Was The most successful year he had. With the Release of his Album “Strings and Bling” which got the world showering praises. The album got so much love from fans around the world and you wouldn’t wonder why, would you? Who wouldn’t love an album with songs like Casanova, Gravy, Jungle, Blisters and of course SMA ft Rowlene. He later released the string version of one of the best song of the album “Casanova”.

Nasty C is expected to drop his new project in 2019 titled “Zulu man with some power” which he already dropped one song off it “God flow”

After all these hard work and success, he deserves this spot.
